The above pair of earrings are by famed designer, Ted Muehling. Love him, love everything about him, but come on, they're WAY too expensive for a grad student like me. I've searched far and wide for a similar pair at half the cost, and now, I've found it. Jessica Hicks is a fabulous jewelry designer in Nantucket, and sells her pair for $240. She's got plenty of other stuff too, like rings, bracelets and necklaces. Check her out.

Oh Vane! I was googling Ted Muehling to check his hours since I am going to be in New York in April, and came across this entry. I also have been pining (for years) for his queen anne lace earrings, and it is very intruging to see some else's version. Such a dilemma, do I remain true or possibly stray?..not sure what the outcome will be but thanks for letting me know about the option!
How do you know that Jessica copied Ted??? Couldn't it be that they both came up with the idea independently? I am sure that this happens a lot. Also, looking at Jessica's web site, it is clear that her trademark design is using the piercing or holes -- it is on every piece. Not so with Ted. I love Jessica's stuff. Ted is alright but I can afford Jessica's and it is so wearable!!
Thanks for telling us about Jessica Hicks -- interesting pieces! But, if you're interested in the gold earrings (and not to spoil anyone's fun), I'd recommend saving up and getting Ted Muehling's small (2") plain Queen Anne's Lace earrings ($1600). My boys (husband and two year-old son) got me a pair for Mother's Day and they are DIVINE -- lightweight (no headaches / earlobe-aches) and incredibly pretty: I won't take them out! The little gold balls totally add to the effect and they're v. dainty. Jessica Hicks' earrings, which are really interesting in a heavier (in appearance), funkier, not-as-dainty way are still $800. Sounds gauche (and maybe it is), but I appreciate the price difference because of the Ted Muehling earring's provenance and finesse of detail. Can't help it -- I think they're incredible! All that really matters is that you feel special and pretty wearing them, no matter the designer.
I have been going through the same dilema and wanted to ask you about the Ted Muehling earrings pictured. They appear to be a dark finish, but I understand he only works in gold. This doesn't look like white gold. It is impossible to find photos of his work. Is this the Queen Anne's lace, and does it have tiny stones on it. I wondered if this is what the writer dux got as her fantastic gift.
Thank you for the information.
Barbara
